Artsmark Gold

I am delighted to tell you all that on Tuesday 3rd February 2015, the school was accredited as an ARTSMARK GOLD school. This prestigious award is given to schools who can demonstrate excellence in Arts provision throughout the school. An inspector visited for the day and witnessed Music and Dance being taught by our specialist teachers. She commented on the schools “commitment and determination to provide quality learning experiences for pupils.”

She asked our Singing, Art, Dance and Drama pupil leaders about their experiences of the arts and how Arts provision is impacting on their learning. She reported “pupil representatives were impressive, being excellent ambassadors for the arts at your school. They were thoughtful, articulate, responsive and keenly enthusiastic.”

The report was full of wonderful quotes including one pupil commenting that the arts “makes it fun, and I don’t realise I’m learning.” When viewing the very large Van Gogh portrait, Kitty (Year 6) described, with a maturity beyond her years, the exciting impact of large scale art work and the benefits of collaborative team work on its creation. “Excellent”

The inspector went on to say “The engagement with these artists is far reaching, stretching beyond individual art forms to influencing teaching and learning across the whole curriculum. Your vision for the next three years is both ambitious and extremely exciting.”

Arts Mark Gold Award testifies to the fact that the teaching and learning of Arts in the school is ‘exceptional’.

What is Artsmark?

Inspiring young people through the arts and culture.

Benefits to Children

Creating happy, articulate, successful young people

We believe every child should have the opportunity to create, compose, and perform, as well as to visit, experience, participate in and review extraordinary work. Artsmark can help unlock the potential of children and young people, help to develop character and talent, and increase their knowledge and understanding. That’s why Artsmark was created: to bring this ambition to life in every classroom.

Awarded by Arts Council England, designed by schools, the new Artsmark award will help schools to deliver a high quality arts and cultural education and provides an excellent way to demonstrate this. Across the country Artsmark is rewarding more and more schools for championing arts and culture.

Artsmark gives every child the opportunity to create, compose, and perform, gain knowledge and understanding, and to visit experience and participate in extraordinary work.

• build the confidence; resilience and drive that will help children grow into happy, articulate, successful young people
• arts and culture unlock potential helping children and young people develop character and talent, knowledge and understanding
